THE GUILD OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT The members of this guild assist in the worship of the church especially in the service of Holy Communion. Membership is open to both men and women. The members serve by taking on the historic roles of Deacon and Subdeacon. They have key roles preparing the altar, serving communion to the people and cleaning up afterwards. During the service, the Deacon also reads the Gospel and at the end of the service dismisses the people back into the world to love and serve. The Subdeacon is in charge of the Missal, the book in which the service is printed. The Subdeacon guides the Celebrant through the service and also leads the people in corporate prayer. Both these roles can be traced back to the early centuries of the Church. In the life of St. Timothy’s, the members of the Guild of the Blessed Sacrament are crucial to our worship.
