CENTENNIAL YEAR 2011 St. Timothy's will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2011. The first congregation of Anglicans to gather for worship in Agincourt took place in April, 1911 when a lay reader presided over a service in a hall on Brimley Avenue just north of Main Street (Sheppard Avenue). The group continued to meet for worship and others joined in. That fall a former bank building on Midland just south of Main Street was purchased as a regular meeting place and was named St. Timothy's Mission Hall. In 1919, construction of a permanent church began. The rectangular brick building with a squat Norman-style tower, what is now the rear two-thirds of the nave, was completed in 1920. While we are proud of our history of service and witness in Agincourt over the years and wish to celebrate it, we need to look forward thinking of these 100 years as a firm foundation on which our ministry and mission in the community can grow and flourish. |
