Corporation

Anglican Churches like St. Timothy's are governed by s system of wardens. A People's Warden is elected by the members to represent them in the decision-making processes of the church. The Incumbent appoints a Rector's Warden to represent his or her interests. The Wardens are charged with maintaining the temporal interests of the parish. This includes areas such as finance, property, and administration. The Incumbent's role is to be the final arbiter of spiritual matters including areas such as worship, pastoral care, and education. Together, the Incumbent and the Wardens form the Corporation, the legal entity of the parish. Working closely together, the members of the Corporation lead the church forward so that it can accomplish its mission.

The Churchwardens, together with the Incumbent, are responsible for the leadership of the congregation. The Churchwardens focus on the temporal (i.e. business affairs) of the congregation. The Churchwardens are guided by the Canons of the church, specifically Canon 15.

Each Parish has two Wardens, one appointed by the Incumbent, and one elected by the people of the congregation at Vestry. At St. Timothy's, we also have two Deputy Wardens, one appointed by the Incumbent, and one elected by the people of the congregation at Vestry.

The Wardens and the Incumbent, assisted by the Treasurer, form the Corporation which carries out all legitimate directions arising from Synod, and all legitimate directions of the Parish, and the Diocese.
