Music Ministry The music programme at St. Timothy's Church is centred around providing music for its weekly Sunday liturgies. Even though there is an active choir, congregational participation in the liturgy is encouraged through hymnody and the singing of psalms. There is also an informal music programme for children, which is provided through the Sunday Christian Education programme.
Choral music for Sunday 11am services is provided by a mixed-voice adult choir of about 22 voices. It rehearses on Thursday evenings, starting at 8:00, with an extra rehearsal on Sunday mornings, starting at 10:30am. In addition, this choir provides music for regular evensong services. During Holy Week, a ritual male choir is formed in order to sing the service of tenebrae. Music for the 9:15 service is provided by cantors, drawn from the choral scholar programme. The musical style of this service is a combination of traditional and modern styles. One thing that is stressed is the enjoyment of making music and the camaraderie of fellowship. In other words, we have fun doing this! St. Timothy's is proud of its "Choral Scholar" programme. This was started in 2006, providing performance opportunities for young pre-professional singers in a choral setting. As a part of a musical outreach programme, St. Timothy's has sponsored music festivals, concerts, and other music events, and has sponsored its own "East Meets West Festival". Norman Reintamm, our Music Director, presents recitals in the church from time to time. Located in the chancel of St. Timothy's is an excellent pipe organ installation. Originally a Hallman Organ, it has been rebuilt as a hybrid pipe/digital instrument. You will find the specifications for the instrument on the Organ Specifications page. St. Timothy has a 7' Chickering grand piano located in the nave of the church. In addition to this acoustic instrument, the church also has two digital keyboards at its disposal, one a Roland, the other a Yamaha.
